my 3" H. hippopus refuses to stay where i put it. i've had it attached to a small piece of liverock that i buried in the sand to give it a solid base. it has released it's byssal threads at least 4 times and moved to a new location. this wouldn't be so bad except that two of the locations are with his byssal threads attached to the glass. how can i keep him in one spot? lighting is more the sufficient and all the tank parameters are in check.

Try moving him someplace else, he isn't happy where you are placing him, I had a similar problem w/ a 3" maxima, I finally found a spot on some live rock where he was happy, it took me about 6 weeks to find the spot.

I agree. Try another location. Keep in mind that hippopus are not as light demanding as maxima and crocea clams. So, what you might think is optimum lighting may be too much. They have lighting requirements similar to squamosa clams. It also just might like all of the attention it is getting! :D

My experience has been that hippopus move constantly. As lond as it it is low and in the sand it should be fine. Adam
