Home Depot or Lowe's......?

Got into a discussion today about which is better, Home Depot or Lowe's.

I prefer Lowe's, they always have what I need and their staff is usually pretty knowledgeable and eager to help.

But what do you all prefer? And why?

I've always been under the impression they're the same store with different colors but I haven't spent much time in Lowe's and dealt with their staff. They can't be any worse than HD's staff though!

They're like yin and yang as far as building supplies go. It's worth it to shop both when building or remodeling as they each carry a few diferent brands. I rather Lowes garden center over HD too.

For DIY either will do but Lowes seems to have more "stuff". :)

our lowes has the worst, the worst customer service / sales people...

my lowes is worse than your home depot.... the only way i can ever get some assistance if i take my buddy who used to work there... he find some one he knows and viola...

Lowes is marketed to women, Home Depot is marketed to men.

Thats why Lowes is all painted up, and things look nice. and HD there is **** everywhere.... Kinda maked you feel right at home walking though HD doesn't it?

Lowes always have 5 ft sections of PVC. I like the warehouse feel of HD and I think its cheaper some times. Its a toss up... depends on the situtaion I suppose.

Lowes seem to have a better PVC selection.
Much better PVC section. I can never get the pieces I need at HD.

at lowe's here they have more stuff, but no self checkout, so you have to wait in line for a long time since they only open like 2 lanes, not to mention that the cashiers at lowe's are horrible

plumbing - better at lowe's
lumber - better at HD

tools, hardware, etc pretty much a toss up between them

I agree that Lowes has much better plumbing selection.....

The lumber selection is hit or miss though.....with Lowes in the lead, as HD usually has dings/splits in most pieces here. It is also frustrating because HD does not have anywhere near the selection down here that the northern states had when I lived in Chicago. (hardly any moldings, garden timbers, nice hardwoods, etc.)

 Ive never been to Lowes before, always HD for me.

I think the closest one to me is 10.3mi away, and i think that we would have to cross a toll bridge  not sure because i dont drive lol.

Our Lowes and HD are about .5 mile apart. I shop both because they each have different pros and different cons. Lowes for plumbing supplies and HD for wood stuff.

...really though I have serious problems with the 16 year olds working at either place that couldn't tell me the difference between a 16d nail and a water softener....

I normally go to Lowes for the simple reason I had a budget of about $100k/year for building supplies, their contractor sales staff was much easier to deal with and deliveries were better (shingles on the roof rather than ground only, etc...). Locally, Gordon Lumber has better quality materials and more personal service but sometimes a little more expensive and less of the "one stop Super WalMart" mentality. My brother on the other hand swears by HD.

Mostly now I go to Lowes because I know the store from being there on a regular basis for about 4 years. HD is about a half mile further from my office and more difficult to get in and out. Otherwise I consider them about the same...

Lowes all the way, unfortunately I am forced to shop at HD more than Lowes. Lowes will have what I need, HD might, or wont have it and will offer too help you look...........HD sucks pretty bad, they really had a horrible restocking plan, once its out, its out of stock for a while...

I do prefer going to HD. I feel like I'm back in High School shop class.

Always thought it was cool to hang out with the shop teacher with 4 fingers on his right hand.

Lowes for two reasons..
1. HD never stocks sch 80 pvc in my area.
2. In my area, HD stocks CPVC pipe, but no CPVC fittings, which is so stupid I just can't give them any business at all!

Lowes was just built by me so havent been it there too much im in the procces of finishing my basement with a fish room. and just comareing lumber prices HD is $1.99 for 2x4's were Lowes is $2.99 so that is alot of money that you can save plus you can use cupons at either store lowes cupons works at HD and HD's at Lowes.

I have yet buy and Pvc but i will check that out when the day comes. I am almost finished frameing the bassement out its 31' x 21' with a 8' x 8' fish room. tank is going to be set up in the wall.

oh sorry i was on a rant there.
