How critical is Alk for LPS?

I have a 125g mixed tank. I am thinking about buying a Ca Reactor - but am wondering whether it is worth it.

My Ca is around 375-425 (fluctuates a bit) and Alk is all over the place (usually between 6-9 dkh). I use Dr. Randy's 2-part additive. My pH has always been around 8.2 whenever I test it.

I have some successful LPS' like a hammer, and pearl bubble, but others like my anchor hammer and frogspawn usually recede and die. I have other finicky things, like an anenome, which are thriving.

All other params are good (except Mg which is around 1100). I just started testing for this and will bring it up.

My question is, if I don't intend on keeping SPS, should I invest in a Ca reactor or not?

Any advice would be appreciated. If I do go for a reactor, I think I'll go for a Korallin C-1502.

Thanks.

i agree, you are probally loosing corals from the constant "swings"
ca reactors a not cheap but if you purchase a good unit then you will not need to add most additives unless you want to
the issue with mg will also be taken care of with the use of a good reactor and media. imo it will also save you money in the long run (mine has) plus most people who run them will tell you that the growth rate increases with its use.

There is some anedotal evidence that supports the idea that when the Mg comes up, your alk will be easier to stabilize. I'm getting ready to work on that, too. Alk is a forgotten killer (I know I say this every time someone asks about alk...). It's easy to let it slide if you don't test frequently and adjust dosages according to animals in the tank.

One of the TOTMS from about 6 months ago is primarily Soft corals & the owner even said that a Ca reactor has greatly improved his growth.....
