How do clams respond to a surge?

I will be adding a surge to my tank in the next month or so, and I was wondering how it would affect my clams.

I have seen a store with clams directly below a surge, and it doesn't seem to really bother them, they don't even close when it goes off, but I think in my smaller tank, my surge will be pretty forceful.

Is there anyone who has had a clam react poorly to a surge?

My croceas dont seem to mind the surge. They are not directly in the blast, but do receive a lot of current.

I turned the surge on last night, my crocea promptly detached, and then the surge quit working. The flapper valve is quit opening all the way.
