This may sound crazy but are there any indicators to look for to determine good or declining health? my rics seem to expand during light hours, but shrivle with lights on moon.. Is this normal?

That sounds normal to me. When the ricordias have their mouth gaping, or start bleaching or shriveled with normal lights on, then you might have to look into it. But what you describe sounds like how my ricordeas act in my tank. My biggest yuma expands to like 4-5" during the day.

And the only real way to know if it is acclimated is to actually do a good acclimation before you put it into the tank.

i have seen them with mouths gaping but i dont think they have expanded the way they were in the store yet. How do you acclimate? floating, drip?

Like any other creature, you float the bag to get the right temperature as your tank. Then you slow drip to get the salinity the same. That's about it. Some people use a dip to prevent any flatworms/red bugs/parasites from being introduced into the tank with the coral.
