How do I revive this coral

Definately a dead coral. Looks exactly like one i bought at my lfs to stick in my quarantine tank. There is no to bring it back to life... you can stick some zoanthids on it and grow a pretty cool colony or try some sort of encrusting coral, but other than that it is useless

the branches are so neat, i was thinking the exact same thing as Step Johns last night. decorate it like a christmas tree.

since it's all algae, i guess it's safe to remove it from the tank (more room for trigger) and let it dry - kill the algae. any other suggestion to faster kill the algae?

thanks.

Theres really no need to kill the algae the only thing i would do is get some liverock. It doesnt look like you have any unless your tank is drilled and pumbed I would get some live rock, get rid of that trigger, and you could keep the dead coral and seed it with some other liverock, but you run the risk of a cycle, then again, you have no live rock, so you likely have alot of ammonia and nitrates anyways?

i've seen these before while snorkeling in hawaii. guilty as I am, i broke a piece off while in hawaii, left it in hotel room with some water no sun. then it died, it stinks reallly bad and turn completely white. as you can see, the lower portion of this is white, so that part is dead, i think the rest still have a chance.

........:blown: :fun2: not smart....

Man please do research,
that trigger will eventually die in that tank...
Taking the coral is illegal.
The fine is in the thousands and probably jail time.

+1 on getting that trigger out of there. OP, you are really going to learn the hard way. You are getting a lot of good advice here.

not cool man...illegal as these people say, at least admit to what you did was wrong...
you first say you got it from snorkling and after you're saying that you didn't?

that is neat!...
please don't do it again.

You could have gotten a free license and taken a couple fish back home from
unprotected places, but you screwed up....

i think some of you people read the post wrong...I said when I was snorkeling in Hawaii, i broke a piece off (2 inches), something similar to this. then i left it in a hotel room without light and it died, and stank the room.

This piece in particular, was with a batch of LR I got from a local hobbyist off Craigslist. He told me, it's a coral and is still alive. so curiously, I came on here and seek advice. From the reponses, don't think i'll have a chance to revive. therefore i took it out of the tank and letting the algae die.

yah yah, bigger tank, trigger need more room..blahblahblah. i took the big rock out, replaced it with a smaller one. pending a 300 gallon setup. comprandez? (sp)?

Pbitawa

it looks similar to one found in hanauma bay snorkeling in hawaii. I got it, looks half dead, how do i revive it?
