How is my skim supposed to look?

Is my skim supposed to look black(ish) green? Looks and smells like diarrhea to me. :lol: I just emptied the cup a few minutes ago since lately the skimmer has been skimming like crazy. I'll take a picture of the skim in the morning to get a better idea.

Yes, it should have a very salty, avacado & onion taste to it with a scent of 3 day old tuna...gargle for approximately 30 seconds before swallowing. If everything comes out allright in the end, you have a high quality skimmate.

That is an ASM isnt it? How long has it been running? Mine is a little darker I think but could be just the photo...took about a month for mine to get broken in and really start pulling.

mcliffy2 - It's a G3. It was used before, but could be that the mesh mod has to break in?

I wouldn't taste it yet. Add a bit more garlic to it and maybe spice it up a little bit first. Try it on rice.

I would leave it alone. I'm a fan of wet skimming.

If you wanted it to be darker/thicker I think you could just lower the return pipe on the skimmer. That way the skimmate would be less watery. (someone correct me here if I'm mistaken, I'm still new to this)

Always be sure to clean the cup (especially the neck), whever you dump it out. I use a bottle brush.

Does this affect performance? I have just been dumping the skimmate and putting the collection cup back on my Sapphire Nano Skimmer. Should I be scrubbing this down each time?
