How Long Can I Keep My Live Sand in Buckets & Bins?

I have some sand in one of those and it is 3/4 full with 2" of water.

It seems very deep to have it alive in the bottom half but that would be great it it were alive.

How full did you have your bins?

I had two smaller bins with only a few inches of sand and a fair amount of live rock. However, this was for a 37 gallon tank.

Going the bin route, I'd suggest a few inches of sand with as much rock as you can fit and as many bins as you need.

I would definitely think there might be trouble with 3/4 full of sand, especially for critters that were living near or at the surface when the sand was removed from the tank.

With over 500 lbs. of sand, I think I'd need too many bins.

I will rinse and bleach it per tkeracer619's suggestion.

What would be the difference between using bleach and muriatic acid?
