How long does silicone need to set?

I installed the overflow box in my 55g tank, and baffles in my 20g sump. I am almost ready to add the water, but I want to make sure that I am not poisoning the water by adding it too soon. The silicone is aquarium safe, from the LFS. The overflow box was installed on Friday, and it still smells really bad like silicone.

Usually 24hrs, is there any rcomendations on the silicone tube?

I'd give it 24-48 hours but I've seen it done in less under dire circumstances.
