how many of you have crabs with your clam?

I'm debating pulling my scarlet crabs, I also have a sally lightfoot and 3 blue leg crabs. The clam isn't here yet, I don't mind getting rid of the scarlets but the blue leg and sally I would rather not

No crabs here either. I do have a cleaner shrimp in my personal tank only!

I used to have lots of hermits but never had a problem, but I am not gonna chance it either. Best of luck, Rob

I have about a dozen blue-legged hermits in my 50G with my clams. They haven't touched my clams. I'm not replenishing the hermits though and plan to let it get down to about six. Then I'll keep their numbers there.

I think I'll give it a shot, the clam will be here tomorrow so I think i'll get a strawberry basket to cover it for a few days, until it's established and not stressed out from the trip, then I'll uncover it while I watch for a few hours, both during the day and night, and slowly uncover it more and more, if I catch a crab lookin at it, he goes to the big toilet in the sky.

i've got five or six blue legs and a mithrax in with my squam. they don't even look at it. my peppermint shrimp has seemed a bit interested at times though..

Clams here!

Clams here!

I've got a few dozen little blue-leg hermits and three beefy emerald crabs in a 180 with two (recently-added) small T. maxima. The crabs occasionally nibble on something on the shell, but never touch the mantle. The peppermint shrimp and white-striped cleaner shrimp also ignore the clams.

That being said, this is a risky clam habitat, so I'm not buying any more until the good behavior continues for a while...

I've got red and blue legged hermits and two Emerald crabs. These crabs and 3 clams co-existed with no problems for a year. I've recently added 3 more clams and have still not seen any incidents with clam mantles. The hermits occasionally pick something off the clam shell, but I figure that's a good thing. I'm weeding out the bigger hermits, though, just because they have a nasty habit of pulling my snails out of their shells no matter how many empty ones I give them. I also have Peppermint and Cleaner shrimp. The only time I've seen them approach the clam is if a tasty morsel of food lands on the clam. Of course the next thing that happens is the clam does a big cough and both shrimp and tidbit go flying! LOL!

I have a rather large Sally and a couple of Emeralds in my system with 2 maxima's and a crocea with no problems.

well, for an update, I have all of the above with my small maxima and no problems so far, at all. Thanks for the input!

3 or so blue legs
3 BIG freakin scarlets
1 sally lightfoot
1 emerald

I have hermits, a cleaner shrimp and a new sally lightfoot and haven't had any problems, but when I had peppermints I saw one go right in front of my face while I was viewing the clam and rip off a chunk of the mantle. YMMV but peps are agressive suckers so watch out.
