How much is your electricity bill already?

I run 4x24W T5HO for 4 hours a day, and 6x24W for another 2 hours a day. No chiller. 2x Koralia pumps, Eheim 1260 return pump.

And that's the only tank I have...for now.

But the electricity bill for this past month was already $100!

$670 4 br 2000ft house. New high efficiency windows, dual zone Air Conditioning and new roof.

Dang thats crazy! My house is 4bdrm 1900 sqaure feet with a swimming pool.

50 to 100 bucks on 4br 3000ft single story house...
only run 1 250 mh but house temp only goes to 83 ish
when outside is 104+ so not so much ac action going on

$175 last month and that was with my tank only set up half the month. I'm not looking forward to the next bill. I have had my chiller on this month, too. 1500 sq foot house with only evening shade. PGE

My bill is crazy between $750.00 and $900.00!!!

I am am now getting rid of a lot of my tanks.
When I lived in a smud zone my bill was max $375.00.

good god chris, I always wondered what you might pay with all those tanks you have.

We're on smud grid and pay about 175 for both PG&E and smud. But... my tank is 60gals with no chiller and T5 lighting. Fairly modest setup as my power peaks at 4 amps for the tank.

Good God! I hope you are growing more than corals with that kind of electricity bill!

mine is often several hundred bucks. having a reef tank certainly doesn't help, but i am also running my 220v well pump quite a lot for irrigating.

PG&E does indeed stand for Plunder Gouge & Extort. They have you by the gonads and they know it.

Ours averages about $220, SMUD. Your free aquarium power analysis:

4*24W*4 hrs = 384 W/hrs - first lights
6*24W*6 hrs (or 2 total?) = 864 W/hrs - second lights
2*15W*24 hrs = 720 W/hrs - Koralias
65W * 24 hrs = 1560 W/hrs - Eheim

Total for power consumption listed = ~3.5kW/hrs per day. With SMUD, that's about $.54/day or $15/month.

It's worth noting that my Playstation 3 consumes close to $10/month in electricity because we always forget to turn it off. The Dish Network box consumes a lot, also, but I forget exactly how much at the moment. It's a DVR so it needs to be on all of the time.

I'm not surprised about the DVR. My 2 are always whirring away.

hmm, I wonder how much my well pump is costing me...

Brand/Model? Any idea how many amps it draws or how many hours a day it runs? Even if something 220V is running a full 50 amps, that's $1.60/hr. I doubt anything actually consumes 11 kW/hr, though. I actually wonder how much power my AC unit on top of the house draws when it's running.
