How to build an glass aquarium?

Glass is cheap. The real cost is having the edges "seamed." When glass is cut the edge is not square or flat. Seaming grinds the edges square and flat. Square and flat edges=good bond

Some of my local shops are quoting $0.25 to $0.35 an inch to seam the glass. The last time I built a aquarium 36" long I asked for used glass (~$1.00/sq ft). This resulted in the seaming being more than 75% of the total cost.

Hey guys I way thinking of making my own tank also did the calculations on GARF they said 1/2 inch glass for a 72x30x24 think that is ok or should I got 3/4 ?

if its braced that should be fine.

unbraced, heck might want even thicker than 3/4 for such a long span.

I was thinking about a 90 gallon rimless. Every tank I have seen has the 4 side panels sitting on the bottom panel. Without the trim I would imagine that this wouldn't look quite right so would it be ok to put the side panels on the perimeter of the bottom pane?
