How to clean spots on glass

I got this old sump that has spots on the glass, I am guessing is due to years of dosing two parts. I tried to scrub it with magic eraser with vinegar, and scrape it with blade and still does not come off. Any tips or tricks on how to clean this?

Try a paper towel soaked in vinegar, so it stays in contact with the glass. Then use a razor blade.

Take it outside and CAREFULLY (gloves and eye protection!!!) pour some muriatic acid on it. Let it sit for a few minutes, and rinse. I'll bet it's no longer there.

I used toothbrush to apply muriatic acid. The toothbrush bristles turned yellow. Stain is still there, muriatic acid is no match. I used the blue label muriatic acid from lowes.

I don't think applying with a toothbrush is the way to go. I think it needs more contact time.

What's a good practical way to give it more contact time?

I used the acid full strength and brushed the stained area a good 10 minutes.

Hmmm....if it is salt deposits, the muriatic acid should take care of it. If not, then maybe the glass is etched?

if it is salt deposit, I think vinegar alone should be sufficient.
I had actually thought of that, the glass is etched, but by what?
It does not show if it is wet or in water. so that sounds like it is etched right?

its not a really big deal, but since this is a new build, I'm trying to get a clean start.

If the muriatic acid didn't get rid of it then I'm voting for etching as well. I have yet to have any sort of deposit stand up to a acid bath.

how did the etching occur? just years of water flow? That is the section where the drain used to be.

any particular glass scratch removal technique that works best for aquarium glass?

just checked youtube. will try cerium oxide
