i am thinking about redesigning my reefscape, but i have no ideas.. i have heard about japanese style scapes but i cant find any info, any help wuld be appersiated love to see the pics
Check out the Reefkeeping Magazine Tanks of the Month for good ideas- those tanks are all spectacular. I've seen a photo of a Japanese tank that had two main islands of rock with lots of open sand between and around them- I tried searching for it but couldn't find it
As far as form, takashi amano is a genius in aquarium layout. he's most known for his fresh water tanks, but you can still "steal" ideas from those as far as layout for your marine system. He has also done some reef tanks...
I will warn you though, looking at Amano aquascape designs has been known to cause people to spend a lot of money setting up a freshwater planted tank...

I've also always been a huge fan of Weatherson's 240g.
I've been putting a lot of thought into this lately, and for me, the nice 'scape is one that allows lots of coral space. However, actually more importantly, I've decided (for myself) is a place for fish to swim and play. Many of us tend to do these large rock walls, and it allows room for fish to pace back and forth in front of the corals. However, I feel like we forget a tank is three dimensional, and should be 'scaped that way.
now that i am adding more live corals to the tank, i wish i had put in more "shelves" or flat areas. I really took the surface area for filtration's sake to heart and used almost all branching tonga
