Hydrogen Peroxide solution Bath/Dip

Recently, I was talking with a highly respected coral vendor and asked how they combat algae that tends to grow on frag plugs, in a frag tank.

I've always used 10-15 minute CoralRx dips, with mixed success. It does kill the algae but it always seems to grow back within a couple of weeks. I've heard of doing a series of these dips, every 3 or 4 days, over a couple week period, and it being much more successful than a single dip. However, I can see that becoming cost prohibitive...lol.

Anyway, this much respected coral vendor said that he uses a hydrogen peroxide solution, as a bath/dip. Unfortunately, I don't remember any of the specifics, such as solution mixing procedure/hydrogen peroxide to saltwater ratio, or time length of dip/bath. So, I figured I'd come here for the most expert opinions!

RC has a resident expert on this topic floating around here. Having recently done this myself with outstanding results, I'll tell you how I did it...

Basically I mixed up a 50/50 solution of tank water and 3% peroxide solution. Then I dipped each piece for 3 minutes. I fully submerged zoas and platties, but only submerged the bases of leathers and LPS such as frogs and torches. I don't have any SPS so I can't testify to that. After the soak I rinsed the pieces in another tub of tank water and then returned the pieces to the tank. Everything except for coralline did fantastic, and the nuisance stuff is completely gone.

Good luck with your treatments. Personally, I'm planning on peroxide dips for all new corals as a profilactic treatment from now on.
