Always wondered this,....

Does Hypo kill the nitrifying bacteria on live rock? Or just the critters on it...

It may temporarily suppress nitrification, but I don't believe it kills the bacteria. However, many invertibrates in the rock will not survive it.

OK,

I was just wondering, since in the past when I did hypo, I just did a bunch of water changes and used Amquel to deal with Am, trite, & trate.

If I seeded some media with bacteria (i.e. - put it in my regular tank's sump), would hypo just nullify the bacteria leaving me with the above method?

Just wondering how everyone else did it. I will be q-tining a bunch of new fish soon, and wanted to know.
