i had to take a break and figure out what was wrong with my tank. i have lost all but about 5 of my corals. come to find out it was a heating issue. my temp was running about 90 but my thermometer was reading 81-82. so i am looking for more corals to fill my 125.
the 12 gal has been fine but i didnt want to add anything to it till i found out the problem with my big tank. also i am looking for a cal reactor. i have the tank but lack everything else. i will see you all at the next meeting.

Will, glad to hear you found the prob, I didn't realize it was so bad. Bamm Bamm had the same issue! He lost a bunch of coral and some fish too. I'm a little paranoid now. I'm thinking about getting a temp controller and keeping a redundant thermometer in both the tank and sump (just for piece of mind).

Keep a couple of fans at the ready since it's been about 96+ deg F in Tracy and surrounding area lately. At least we're not in Arizona where some parts are topping 120.

i have no heater pluged in and a fan running on the sump and it 84 in the tank now.

If you can handle the evaporation then consider adding another or bigger fan to your sump and or main tank itself.

As a comparison, I'm running 2 of those big 9" Philips fans directly on top of my main tank and thus far it keeps the temp below 80. But, my evap off the 210 is prolly 5 gallons a day.

Chiller is also an option but run rate is much more expensive.

Ouch... Is your stand enclosed or open back? What kind of fan are you using? I use one of those black Honeywell fans, about 9" diameter (same kind Scott uses) on the lowest setting and it moves some air, but my tank is still pretty hot right now (83+). In the latest newsletter I have some suggestions for keeping cool in my Letter From the President section, you might want to skim through it and see if anything might help.

picked up a 7" clip on fan to run on the top and use the other 7" in the sump. so far after 5 hours is 81.5 from 86. it is an open back stand and an open back and top canopy. so we will see how things go. also what would i use to regulate the temp? like a controler for a chiller?
