Could be...it is kind of conical in shape. Its pretty bright tho at least it was before I put it in my tank....whatever he is he looks pretty annoyed right now, he is darker and has a film coating.

Thanks, that link is a great resource. I've got a couple of other mystery corals I'll try to figure out also.

montastrea is what i was going to sugest i had a coral that looks like that ones brother?keep us posted on how it colors up. mine always looked like it was gonna color up a killer purple or green but it never made it i got some brown jelly on another coral and when i was pulling it out to cut off the infection a powerhead blew jelly everywhere so it landed on this guy and devoured him!!!also got a couple of killer corals besides the montastrea.cool coral!

Nice to know I've got it right. IDing in this forum is so much easier than in the SPS forum (they always want to know a species name). :)

I don't even try to identify SPS to species, specifically Acroporids.

I just sit back and smile at everyone "identifying" the numerous "milles", "tenuis", and "torts" out there. Perhaps they don't realize there are more than five species. ;)

In going thru Eric's book to find out care for the Monastraea, I found a Montastraea cavernosa that looks alot like the one I have, then I looked it up in the red house link and it says it comes in orange and is commonly conical in shape....I'm thinking that it what it is but thanks all for pointing me in the right direction
