Okay, I know some of you have heard this before but I promised to post a picture.

What kind of crap can you get for free? Take a look.

This aquarium was in the hospital lobby I worked at. It sprung a leak in the corner and they decided to take it to the dump. I interceded and they agreed to give it to me. They even had movers take it to my house. I removed all the old silcone and repaired it. This is a picture of it undergoing a leak check. So far so good. In a few days I'll move it from the garage into the house.

Dimensions are 2' wide x 6' long x 2.5' tall. Approx 225 us gallons.

Life is good.

Mike

PS I say almost free because I had to spend $12 for silicone.

Impressive!

I'm also interested in the story of how you managed to be at a hospital when they were getting ready to throw away such an awesome tank instead of having someone come out and repair it!

Well... darn it..

I can see someone noticing that if they're observant and all that... but I'm of the internet generation! I want information handed to me with a nice Andes mint on the silver platter!!!

:D

Grats on the tank!

Now comes the fun part. Deciding what to do with it. I am considering a bare bottom SPS tank.

I need to drill it. Here's what I'm thinking. I have a tall 150 gallon now and the overflow box was very tall. Once set up it was almost impossible to reach down into. You can see it in this old picture...

This tank is about the same height. I want a center overflow box. I want to drill the bottom rather than the back because I won't have very good access to the back and I want the plumbing to drop right down into the stand. So what I was thinking is that I could make an overflow box maybe 8" tall and attach it to the top. An exposed standpipe made of gray or black pvc would go from the bottom of the tank to the bottom of the overflow which will have a bulkhead. Inside the overflow a durso of course. I should be able to camo the majority of the exposed pipe with LR and the rest shouldn't look any worse than the tunze's I'll have in there.

Unrelated question, what are the flow control devices used for closed loops? Ocean motions?

Mike

PS Roger that Andy, I have $6000 into my 150 gallon. Hey, my sister took her family to Florida for $5600 and all she has to show for it is some memories and some plastic Mickey ears.
