I have a 55 gallon tank. I currently have a hang on regular filter with sponge pads.

I was wondering what do you guys recommend?

Do you guys recommend the Fluval 305 or the Odyssea CSF 4 Cansiter filter?

I have a 55 gallon tank and would love to get a 10 gallon tank or a wet dry filter but I don't want to bother with drilling holes and stuff in my tank. My tank is just a regular tank.

Let me know what you guys recommend.

Also do UV sterilizers really work? WOuld I need one for my tank to kill some of the extra green algea thats getting a bit out of control?? The green algea when scraped off with magnetic cleaner comes off like a green powder.

thnx

I recommend you ditch the foam filters as your main filtration, and go with just the liverock as a source of bio-filtration.

A hang-on the back overflow could be used with a ten gallon as a sump. Wet/drys and bio-balls do not generally work because it collects too much detritus and becomes a nutrient sink.

I use a UV, but for the purpose of helping my copperband overcome a case of ich. I run a fairly large skimmer and do not feed heavily. I try to do water changes every week, but usually lapse into every two and a half weeks with ro/di.

The uv will help decrease some of the algae growth, but not eradicate it.

You can if you wish use the canister filter and add carbon to it, but not much else.
