I Redone The Rock Work In The 85

Hey All,

I changed things up in the 85, because I used rocks to go into the Nano.

I wanted to go with the Softies in the Nano and would like to go with LPS & SPS in the 85. I know this will be a work in progress and thats ok. Things look a little different. Before the rocks seemed so packed and I knew that there should be more flow through them. So I tried my best with the rock shapes that I have. Some of the rocks are kinda round & Large. So it was a little hard to work with, (for me any way) and when you start taking them out the water, it gets so murky that you can't tell what you are doing.
You also are worried about the fish that are in there. You can't see them and they can't see you. So needless to say, you put stress on the fish and the corals. I lost my yellow tang and 5 of my corals. I lost 2 orange monti caps and ( 1 purple Monti cap and the Birdsnest that I got from the frag swap. Also Harry gave me a monti digi and I lost it too.):(
So it has been a bummer knowing I caused this to happen.

Here are some pictures of the rock work. It looks kinda sad looking and bare .

Mary, the tank looks good.
You probably know this, but if some of the corals that were bleached still have living tissue/polyps there's a good chance they'll come back and color-up.

That's what I was hoping, so I have left them in there. So far no color at all....but still keeping fingers crossed.

Thanks Mariner for your help :)

Looking good.. You might end up making more room on your sandbed for some Lps corals.. Sandbeds seem to vanish in my tanks

Mary, It still looks pretty to me. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who tinkers with the rock work. I never can seem to get mine like I want it. A few months ago, I decided to build some "braces" for my rock out of PVC pipe and then anchor the rock to them to get tall columns and caves. Well, 6 hours into it, at 4:00 a.m. in the morning, I am crying, shaking, and VERY frustrated!! I was so scared I was goin to loose all my fish, but luckily they all survived. The worst part of it all, was I liked the rock work better before I messed with it!! ARGGGG! I know how you feel!

Ya, I made a shelf Friday night and spent a hour or two. I made it out of Egg Crate and used those tie tight to hold it. It looks good..haha.. It looked like it would work, and it would have but the rocks were toooo big . Wasted time :(

Here is a pic. If any one wants it let me know you can have it.

Don't Laugh!!! :)

I wish I taken a photo of mine! Mine was waaay too big for the tank. I then started sawing "pieces" of the frame and using a piece here or there. I didn't get the cool triple caves I had planned. You can't actually see any of the trenches I was going for!! Well, it's stuck this way now, I've got too many corals in there to mess with it. Plus, I'll never forget how frantic I felt, trying to place 135lbs of live rock before my fish died. I used Electricians's ties to "anchor" my rock work to the frame. Ugghhh, BAD MEMORIES!!

Hi Christy,
It's funny what we get our selves into. Yes, Ugghhh, BAD MEMORIES !!! That's ALOT of work!!!

Well the rock work has changed a little.( again ) I had another rock slide.

Here it is and now you can see the couple of new frags that were gave to me.

8ball, I did try to get a little more room in the sand bed. Boy that is hard..lol

I really appreciate all the help :)

Is the acro in the last picture the one you got from Lori?

Tomoko

Yes, It has really grown too :)

As for the land slide, is there anyone in the tank who loves to push rocks around besides you?

LOL..ha ha ....Yes the Anemone, It is the Culprit. This morning it was on the back side of the rock. I had fixed the rock again yesterday so it was locked in place and then this morning the anemone had moved again and the rock was still in place.

You do have to find humor in what we do sometimes. :D

Here is a picture of the anemone, where it moved to last night. I am just leaving it! My clown comes after me any time I put my hand in the tank. I think he is tired of me messing with things..LOL

Very nice, Mary. Boy, looking at your pictures, I get so tempted to get an anemone. With my luck it will move around my tank stinging everybody in the way. I know I can set up my 29 to house an anemone and my clowns, but then, I have to do water changes for so many tanks. I don't know if I have enough time to take care them of all. Maybe when I retire....

Tomoko

I do like it ...but man when it wants to move you just have to let it do what it wants to. This has been 4 days in a row..whoosh. It WON!!!! lol :D

Here are the new frags that I got from kng. Boy' that yellow trumpet really shows up :) and I really like the Blasto too!

It is the one that you gave to me, and it is doing great and no problem at all. They all get along fine. On a sad note though, I don't know if you read above about the Yellow Tang. It didn't make it through the change over. :(. But as far as the damsel he is OK.
