IceCap 250w new style VS Lumatek 250w Digital Ballast

I'm no expert but here is what I've read:

Galaxy > Lumatek > IceCap.

I will be upgrading to eballasts soon and will be purchasing Galaxy if I can find them on sale. If not, I will get the Lumateks. HTH.

BTW, Your Reef sells Galaxy ballasts and keeps them in stock.

I love the lumatek ballast. They are very bright. I have only had them for a few months but really like them. I got an awesome deal from Tropical Coral Farms on them.

Ditto ;)

So , Galaxy + radium bulb = awsome color ?
I heard about Icecap new style + radium = awsome
How bout lumatek + radium?
German ballast (Lumatek)+ German bulb(Radium) = Super awsome?

just my thought :)

Radium 250's are a different breed. When fired on an electronic they will be slightly underpowered. If you want the best color out of the radiums, you will need an HQI ballast. JMO :)

Don't know much about the new IC's, but I have a feeling that they will not produce the same power as an HQI ballast :)

For most other bulbs, great colors can be reached w/ e-ballasts.

HTH and didn't confuse the heck outta you ;)

Jim

i have 3x250 lumateks and absolutely love them. reliable and cool to the touch. i've been burning reeflux 12k's and they have been flawless. i dont have any par numbers but my tank has had a nickname of "the nuclear reactor" its so bright. plus according to the sticker on the end they work for HQI's too.

just found this online: NEW Galaxy Dual 250 watt Electronic Ballast for 215.00 shipped . I will post my opinion when I fire it up. I thought this was a good price because I could not find it cheaper than 250 anywhere else. If anyone is interested I'll be more than happy to give you the contact info.

cool, good to hear. I found this seller on ebay and it actually had the option to make an offer. So I made a low offer and got a reply from the seller saying he could go lower out of ebay.

the guy went down to 215 shipped, you might even be able to negotiate with him ,make him an offer. i sent you his contact info. Im still waiting for him to send me the invoice. Let me know and maybe we can get a deal for buying 2.

I like Lumatek also! BUt unless you tested all 3 side by side i don't see how you can say one is better than the other and i don't think all the newer ones have been tested. To be honest i bet all 3 are so close no one could even tell the difference, So i would get the cheapest one or which ever one is on sell

I could tell the difference when I put the gallaxy on display next to the Blue waves. The gallaxy were more blue. They still looked great and so do the lumatek as I tried them out next to the gallaxy on my frag tank.

kdblove_99, I'm all about getting a good deal. Im sure I could be one that could not tell the difference.
Mark, update on 125: so far I have finished the 125 stand with bamboo wood, and just received today 2 lumenax2 pendants with xm bulbs from Ian down in Santa Barbara. Its coming along slow but hope to get it up within the next month.

Your Reef in Roseville is running 250 watt Galaxy ballast in the whole store with Radiums they look great.
On thier small frag tank by the counter they are running a 400 watt Galaxy which looks great also.
I think Im using Galaxy ballast on my 300 unless I can get Ice Caps cheaper.
I think with Lumen Max Elites 22"x22" reflectors with Radiums should give me plenty of light with either ballast
