My two clownfish today developed white spots which im assuming is ich....they are teh only fish in the tank but i do have snails and crabs and no way to quarantine...what do i do??? tank is almost a month old
Without treating them with hypo or copper in QT there isn't really much you can do. You can boost their immune systems with enriched foods (using selcon, beta glucan, garlic). Keep water quality high and stable. Give them a low stress environment. Just hope for the best after that point. Some people say cleaner shrimps will remove ich but I've never seen proof of that to think they are of any help.
2 clownfish, if you can afford it pick up a small 10 gallon tank with a filter box and heater and QT the fish. Most ich tratment will hurt you invert and the ones that wont dont seem to work very well. I had limited success with kick-ich that is reef friendly. Everyone needs a QT tank at some point.
i agree a qt is a good thing to have. however awhile ago i used the kick ich and also fed with garlic soaked foods and they turned out fine. none have had ich ever sence. but i am more sure it was the garlic soaked foods and better enviroment that cured the prob. more than the kick ich.
Last time I had ich, I raised my tank temperature to 80F. It was at 78.5F - 79F before. After that the ich is gone from my purple pseudochromis. Please make sure that you have the stable tank environment.
