I picked up a fire-fish about 2 weeks ago. He had a few spots of what appeared to be Ich. So hes in hypo QT. I was under the impression that the ich parasite hosted on the fish for about a week. As I said its been about 2 weeks and he still has the spots.
Am i mistaken with the length of time it host's?

Marine ich is called Cryptocaryon irritans. It has a complex life cycle, and the cysts on the skin are just one phase of the lifecycle. what u can do is treat with chemicals, or periodically change temperatures up and down by 3 or 4 degrees, this will kill the cyst and free swimming form which keep infecting your fish. here is a good site to look at.

keep it six weeks minimum or 4 weeks under hyposalinity after the last spot disapears... 1.009 with refractometer
