Can anyone tell me what this angel is?

thanks!

But did you get the new genus name? :)

Sumireyakko, I think that's spelled right...

BTW, not great survival rates in captivity. Hopefully someone with some success can chime in and correct me.

Paracentropyge venusta? Or is this the old one?
Holacanthus Venustus now I believe?

Sumire Yakko (スミレヤッコ ) is correct (Violet Angel). And I know where you got that pic. :)

From Bob Fenner at WWM:

Sumireyakko venustus (Yasuda & Tominaga 1969), Venustus, Purple-Mask or Blue-Backed Angelfish (3). Formerly of the genus Centropyge, now placed in the genus Sumireyakko, and mis-placed by some authors in the genus Paracentropyge. Western Pacific rim. To five inches in length.

So, who's right?? LOL :)

He has a really nice pic of one here too: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/sumireyakko.htm

According to several online databases, Sumireyakko sp. is defunct. The latest (and supposedly correct:rolleyes: ) is Centropyge venustus.

Centropyge venustus , which shows all the previous names as being out of usage.

I don't even bother trying to keep up with the taxonomy of many species, since it changes too often, too fast.

thanks everyone! I hate trying to learn the scientific names.. its a pain. :)

i am not selling it.. lol i was just curious as to what it was

any other cool dwarf angel fish out there?
