Sorry to post something that will most likely be answered faster than it takes me to type this but...

What is this...

I'm curing my live rock and this thing, for lack of a better word, is attached pretty well. I was looking at pictures on melevs site and other hitchhiker pages but can't figure it out.

My best guess is a sickly looking mushroom on the verge of death. But I don't know, thats why I'm asking you wonderful people :)

Sorry about the picture thats the best detail I could get.

It could be a mushroom---they'll live through almost anything but alk crisis. I have 4 that survived the cycle.

no, that is a sea pinapple. Is it round? like a golf ball. be carefull if it is a sea pineapple they are beuatiful but can really destroy you tank. They are licking timabombs, not to scare you

I think you mean a sea apple. I doubt that is what it is. Very doubtful one could survive a cycle.

It is very tough to tell from that pic.

Is it hard,? Soft? Does it react to being touched?

No, its not round. Its about the size of a quarter and a 1/8" thick, maybe a little more.

Do you know where I can find more info on them? I google it and all I get are spongebob pages

I'm not sure what it is either, but if you can I would rotate the rock to give it direct light and see if that helps it recover and grow at all.

Good luck!

Definatly not a sea apple based on your description.

Again, is it hard, soft, does it react to movement?

Can you get a better pic?

It's fairly soft, and has no reation to movement, that I can tell. Like I said it's about the size of a quarter, maybe 1/8" thick. The color in the pic is pretty accurate, and it appears to have lines running from the middle to the edges. Thats why I was leaning toward mushroom.

Here is another pic zoomed more... The quality is lacking a bit but thats the best this camera can do. :(

Yeah, looks like a sponge to me with the mouth/siphon part. I'm supprised it's lasted this long of your curing cycle. They usually die early on.
