Identify purple anemone

Anyone know what type of purple anemone this is? I picked it up for 6.99 at PetCo (not my favorite store but the price was right) and not sure what variety it is.

Yikes, fish eater. I was planning to get a clown to host with it but you are saying that I will be feeding it the clown. Expensive dinner.

Remember the first rule of the Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy:

Virtually all anemones will eat fish if 1) they can sting it 2) the sting is sufficient to stop the fish from escaping and 3) the fish is small enough.

I'm personally not a big fan of Atlantic anemones, but it isn't like you've introduced Jack the Ripper to your sister. Some clowns will decide to host (quite safely) in a Condylactus although it is far from a guarantee.

Read up on Condies here. Here are some pictures and an identification guide.

Finally, remember just one key thing .

LOL.
I have been researching it and the more I read the less I feel like
I introduced Jack the Ripper to my sister. I usually read up on livestock b4 throwing it in my tank and the one time I don’t.....well. From what I have read these guys are a hearty nem that have been known to nab a small fish in the night. Clowns do not host with them in the wild but have been known to in captivity. I think I will leave it in the tank and see what happens.

we got suckered into one of these when we started our tank and didnt know any different that clowns dont host them. We have had one in our tank for almost a year. Clowns dont host it but it hasnt eaten any fish either. We do feed it silversides. We also have an RBTA in the same tank and they coexist. I think it will forgot to be put into the next tank.

Sad but the Condys are the most readily available, but of the least use.

I almost bought three from Petco just because they were about to die, but still resisted the temptation.

( odd sort of stray dog syndrome.... but honey, they look SO pitiful ;-)

Maroon clowns will usually host the condy or just about any other anemone. They seem to be the most needy clowns in terms of hosting.
