Identify this moray eel

I'm by no means an expert, but I'd do smaller pieces, if for no other reason, than to make the feeding process less messy, and help keep water quality up, and water changes down.

I agree with you there. It was my first time feeding him and I didn't realize how large it was compared to him until he snatched it out of the tongs lol. It did make quite a mess and the skimmer started foaming like crazy. I'm going to try half the size when I feed him next

Half? I'd try a fifth the size maybe... I like when they can get it down in one gulp motion. Makes for the easiest clean up! (Though the wrapping behavior in the video is really cool to watch sometimes!)

Vicious little eel you got there, but none the less one of the most beautiful eels out there in my opinion!

Definitely agree. Fimbys are aggressive but so worth it imo. So glad I finally got a dedicated tank for one. One of the prettiest eels for sure, and a lot of fun as well.

appreciate the advise. Yeah it was pretty cool to watch Now I gotta work on getting the other fish out of there. It looks like he tail whipped the volitan who quickly got out of the way lol. The angelfish decided to check him out while eating as well and decided it was time to get away after watching for a second

I was bitten by a fimbriated moray eel back in my LFS days.... never again!

The attitude on them is amazing. The one that tagged me was ~20". I've been bitten by a couple different eels by accident, but a frimby is the only one that has sought me out purposely for being in his domain.

All in all, I'd love to own one...

I spoke to employee at Hidden Reef. He called it a spotted moray for $36. He said the owner had it for a while then wanted more of a peaceful tank. He said the owner got it from a breeder in new jersey. I was interested at first, but then after some research learned this may be a 7 foot species. Maybe not, but i would prefer to have positive idetification so i know i can care for it long term.

I tried to look up more information but there does not appear to be much to be found for the moringa eel, at least that I could find. However from the little I found, it looks like it can get 5+ feet though
