What are the physical differences between a crocea and a maxima? I recently bought a clam but dont know what species it is (i forgot). From previous research i suspect that it is one of these two. Is 4*54W T5's on a 72 gal. bowfront sufficient lighting for growth for either species? What species of clam can i keep under these lights ( the sand bed is 20 inches from the surface, and the lights are suspended 3 1/2 inches from the surface). How can i tell if a clam is not getting enough light, besides its death? thanks to anyone that can help me out.

also the clam is a cream color, with the outer mantle metallic green. I've never seen either species in a cream color. is this type available, or is it a sign that my clam is sick?

thanks for the help, i'll try to post a pic as soon as i can. do other species have "rufflely" shells, because i think then that my clam is a maxima. Is the light i have enough? how long would it take for it to attach to a rock? if it takes too long, does that mean that the clam has problems? My clam is open to maximum capacity, what does that mean? how long can/should it stay as this.

If it's mostly blue/purple, with ruffles, then it's a maxima.
I know nothing about t5s except that people can grow some sick acros under them...and if acros will grow then clams will grow. Don't know how spread out your 200W are though..at any rate it should probably be in the top half of the tank.
