I don't know how the event that unfolded involving my tank actully ended without the loss of tank life.

Tuesday night the power went out while we were sleeping. It was back on before I woke up. I never checked the tank not thinking there could be a problem. Wed. I work 2 jobs so I left before the tank lights go on, and I get home after they are off. Thursday I go to work. I come home Thursday and the tank is off. I figure we were having another power outage. I go in the kitchen and all the clocks are working fine. Then it hits me. The tank has not been on since Tuesday night. It is now Thursday evening. I notice the GFIC kicked off. It must have tripped during the outage. I fire the tank back up. My temp is reading 65. I figure all the fish and corals would be dead with 2 days of no water movement and low temp. To my suprise, as the lights warm up, I see a clownfish. Then I see my coral beauty. About a half an hour later the yellow tang pops out. All the corals look fine. I can't believe I did not lose one fish or coral. I guess the bioload is low enough. I have 6 fish in a 90.

Well, I guess I should play the lottery or something.

BTW, Friday night and the fish are acting like nothing ever happened.

Thats incredible. 48 hours is a long time. The only real power outage I have ever gone through was about 12 hours. I lost about 3 fish. My clown and tangs survived, lost a flame angel and others. Angels usually go quick.

The cool-down of the system may actually have helped reduce oxygen demand...what do you think?

I think its possible. Think of the different stories of people falling through the ice and being underwater for 30+ minutes and surviving. It's nice to hear "survivor" stories. Roy, thanks for sharing.

I was so upset when I realized the tank had been without power for so long. I am very happy every one made it through the ordeal.

sk8r, you may be correct about the oxygen demand.

i had the same thing happen to me a few weeks ago. A fuse blew on Saturday afternoon and i didnt realize it till monday afternoon. The tank temp was in the mid 50's! Only thing i lost was a flower anemone that began to roam around the tank when i put the power back on. He got sucked down the overflow.
