Incurrent Siphon WIDE open???

Is it bad to see my croceas with wide open incurrent siphons? Are they hungry or something? I am currently running a 72gal Bowfront with 2-250w 10,000k, my maxima, squamosa and derasa siphons are normal...

Thanks for you advice and input.

it's not good but hard to say why it's doing it, could be any number of reasons. posting water quality might be a start.

my clams do this everyonce in a while but i think they are just streching since it doesn't last any longer than a few seconds. This is reffered to as gaping and is not generally a good thing, i had two clams do this in the past and they both died shortly after that, after doing this for a day or two.

Last week I moved him from sandbed to place on the rock, when I did his foot fell off... a couple of days later after being placed on rock he was beginning to attach, so I figured it is growing his foot back, since then its been open like that, he does respond to shadows quite well!

If you tore his foot then he is destined for death...If he's rattaching, most likely you tore byssal threads. From the looks of the pic he appears to be on the decline big time.

How long have you had this clam? If hew is new and you started him on the sandbed he could be stressing some. Are you sure he left his foot and it wasn't mucus from sand iritation?

I had one do the same thing only to settle in after a week. Watch your water quality and does phytoplankton and keep your fingers crossed.

That clam does not look good IMO and it really looks like it is not doing well since the gaping and the extension is less than desireable. His extension is barely over the shell.

i had my crocea do this for about two weeks after i got it. then it adjusted and is fine now.

it may just be irratated from the move. give it time.

oh by the way nice clam

Well, out of all of my clams it seems to be the one that is most strongly attached to the rock. I've had him now for about 1 1/2 weeks. I really think it is going to make it. I have faith! I'll keep in touch to let you all know if he makes it or not, nonetheless thank you for all your opinions and inputs, you really helped release some stress in my part. Just for kicks, the clam is about 4 1/2".

Croceas tend to 'gap' like that more so than other clams. If it has reattached and is responsive it'll probably be fine.
