interceptor treatment and carbon

Is it a necessity to add activated carbon to your tank during interceptor treatment for red bugs?

Has anyone gone through this treatment without adding carbon?

Even if adding carbon, it would be after the fact, not during. Typically, you turn off/remove carbon during the actual treatment.

Yes, but after 6 hours they say to do AT LEAST a 25% water change and add as much carbon as you can. This is the point where I am talking about. Is it necessary to add carbon? Or, is it ok to only do the water change without adding carbon? Maybe do a 30-40% water change only?
.....what Im getting at is, I do not have any carbon. Should I buy some? Custom aquatic has a 9lb. bag for about $30 plus shipping. Should I buy that?

If the folks recommending it say to use carbon, then I would. It will remove many organics much more effectively than water changes.
