Ok - first off - Banded Shark, or Banded Cat Shark - is usually the Fish Shop name for the Brown-banded Bamboo (Chiloscyllium punctatum).

And don't get me started on how badly - LFS misname sharks. At time it seems like you need a code book to understand the naming - and can be very confusing.

For example - When you see a Marbled Cat Shark for sell - most people thing that's just one shark. But actually there's two Different (and unrelated) species that have that LFS common name.

1st is the White-spotted Bamboo (Chiloscyllium plagiosum) grows to 37" long. Often sold in LFS as the Marbled Bamboo Cat Shark, or sometimes even just called the Marbled Cat Shark

2nd is the Australian Marbled Catshark (Atelomycterus macleayi) grows to 24" long. Like wise they are also called the Marbled Catshark.

Btw - Bamboos aren't real catsharks - but instead belong to the family of Carpet sharks which includes - wobbegongs, and Nurse sharks.

True catsharks(like the Coral & Australian Marbled) are more closely related to Smoothhounds, and ground sharks (requiems).

I once seen a leopard shark in a lfs and when I asked them if that is what it was they tried to convince me it was a "Squiggly Shark". I don't even think that even exist. lol

Yeah - LFS often have bad names for sharks. Sometimes I wonder if the do it intentionally in order to attempt to sale sharks.

Which is just so wrong.

Okay so I have seen the name in lfs of banded bamboo, and brown banded bamboo and black banded bamboo. Are all these the same brown banded bamboo carpet shark?

Yep - all the same species

- Common Name: Brown-banded Bamboo - Scientific Name: Chiloscyllium punctatum

All other names are basically aliases for this shark - such as - Banded Cat Shark, Banded Bamboo, Black Banded Bamboo, Banded Carpet Shark
