I got a one head frag (with 2 polyps sprouts) a few days ago. Even when acclimating, the feeding tentacles were out and swaying waiting for food. I gave it a small bit of krill and it gobbled it up and looked like it wanted more. I gave it a small bit of shrimp the next day and still looks to want more. Most acans I've seen or read about, the tentacles usually aren't out all the time like mine is. There is a tiny bit of tissue that I noticed was receded near the base and I can see around 4 tiny little "spikes" of skeleton so maybe it is trying to heal by eating? I've done searches and all I come up with is what to feed it but not how much at one time. I've read they eat like hogs though. I've been giving a single little sliver (1/2cm by 1mm) of shrimp or krill with plastic tweezers I'm just not sure how much to feed at one sitting. If I feed it some krill, and a little more, will it eventually close up due to a full stomach or will it just eat til it pukes? Thanks for any input!

aha, so you can overfeed. Even if you only feed 2 to 3 times a week, how much do you feed at feeding time? Since mine is healing from the small receded skin area, I might continue to feed a small bit every day unless someone says otherwise. I read on wetwebmedia that one of their writers who farms acans......he feeds them 3 to 5 times a DAY and says they double in size twice a month. I just don't know how much he feeds at any one time.

So when the color pattern is altered does it come back to normal if you stop feeding?

i think to a certain extent it does, i'm not sure though because i still feed mine lol. I think that polyp size also effects color. The smaller polyps that grow off my colony are much more colorful than the mature polyps. it perhaps could be because they feed less and depend more on the light they receive?
I would need to do a side by side, which i will do. I have a wild colony that is going to be fragged at my next club meeting. I will try and do a side by side w/ pieces fed and pieces not fed and see what happens.

from what i've found more light = darker red, brown.. Less light more food = intresting colours

I have mostly Japanese Lords. I grow them under low (PC) light. To color them up I put them 10" away from a 250 watt 20k HQI halide. This brings out colors like the pinks, Purples & blues. I have one green one that looks solid green, but 1 month under the HQI & it gets an amazing pink band! I have heard it is too much for Indonesian Lords though.
