Is it time to review the RC policy on buying and selling?

Recently there have been a number of posts related to buying and selling and many of them may have been in violation of this policy. I suspect that the mods are probably growing tired of these potential violations. The penalty for violating these policies states "Violation of this policy will be grounds for removal from our community."

My interpretation of the rules would suggest that I not post in a thread for sale or to buy an item for sale if I were doing any of the following.

Buying and reselling items for a profit.
Buying with the intent to grow out or propagate to resell for a profit - especially if I were a commercial entity.
Gauging interest in an item I might want to sell.
Commenting on or bumping someone else's item or the price with no intention of buying or trading.

I've seen all of these in the past week. Ultimately my opinion on whether they were a violation or not doesn't matter. Please don't become a statistic.

Stuff has to be reef specific. Sorry if you think it's BS, but it's been the rules for as long as I've been here.

And generally people rarely notice, so I doubt you're being lumped in with people you deem to be below you.

no shortage of rats on rc. problem children weed themselves out fairly quicky. it does suck when honest sellers get caught in the crossfire. it's best IMO to let the mods take out the trash a few times a year.

To be honest, when I upgrade my camera to a D-SLR using it for reef photo's will be a big factor in my decision. I think you may have been unfortunate collateral damage due to all of the nonsense going on lately. It may have gone unnoticed otherwise, just as the generous bumps for a good price typically are. Rules are rules though and when there seems to be no shortage of violations the mods are compelled to uphold them without bias.

I was just looking to help out local reefes with a good deal..but I will follow rules..

Why should this thread be closed? This is just a friendly reminder to revisit the rules before posting.

Whether the thread should or should not be closed is not up to anyone but the mod's. They will do what they want, when they want, fair or not.

Maybe all of us from WNY and Central NY need to come up with a better way to sell and trade among ourselves.

There are alternative reef related websites with Upstate Club pages. There are some familiar names there. Another website and even a store was born out of a controversy with RC mods, though I don't think it went well.

My point is, I think RC is the best. If you don't you have options. Alas, we don't own it. It has rules. Mods have the unenviable job of being the police. Do cops slam peoples faces into the windshield on occasion? Sure. Is it right? I don't know... but if you don't break the rules, you've got nothing to worry about.

Personally, I've met many of the people I interact with on URS. For the most part its been a positive experience. If someone pulls something funky with buying or selling I just write em off, no matter how tasty the deal.

yup, my post that got brought up from two weeks ago or so i would not have posted them few thing for sale(keyboard-bar light) today. Feel like i started it all kinda and i agree (even thought i posted them, looking back not the best choice) it is not the place to sell that and i would get annoyed if everyone sold their "keyboards" on Reef central!
The look down camera should be able to be sold here for sure thought, its deff reef related!!!

Your post was not seen, at least not by me. The people that complained that it was nonreef should have reported it instead of complaining in the thread. You can report it yourself also. And we've been removing non reef stuff for years, so you're hardly to blame.

Infractions are mostly just a heads up, no one sees them but the person infracted. Personally I prefer infractions over pm's as I still have unread pm's from 2006. People don't ignore infractions and then it's on record, as the next one for the same thing does mean something.

I said reef specific. We may have let the lookdown box slide, but the attached camera is not reef specific.

Someone has to realize what this kid is doing. I mean come on. He came on here a week ago and said he was new to the forums and wanted to know how shipping works. Does he really think we are all that stupid?? It's really unfortunate that stuff like this happens. I thought we were all friends.
