I've never seen anything but a purple mat and it grows like a weed. I'm still shocked at the price $50 for some GSP. I know prices are different depending on where your at. I'm smack dab in the middle of the country and you can get it 5-10 here all day long.

I'd bet the Hammer is reaching out at night and killing it. It looks pretty far gone so it might be too late but definetley move the GSP away from the Hammer.

Euphyllia corals can extend themselves quite far if they want to. They lengthen one or two tentacles sometimes as much as six inches to reach out and sting nearby corals. The two corals are certainly close enough to make the Hammer a prime suspect.

yup $50 smakers for what you see here. It is now 20% opened up. Maybe in the next month it will open up 100%

maybe because i am on the west coast? heck I dont know.

docsbattyreef - I will move him down a level to see if that makes a difference. its sure a fighter I will give it that.

Good News my GSP is now about 60% open, and 1/2 of him is now purple and the other 1/2 is green/brown.

I took some pics but forget my memory card, i will post the new pics tomorrow.

The color change happed overnight. Not sure why though, i for sure thought he as goner.

This is one tuff coral. I like it, I cannot wait till he gets bigger

I like the piece I got, it's a small piece 1x2 when I got it. Took a day for it to open and likes high flow. Have had it for over a month and I can tell it is growing. It was a mat and I had it get knocked around a few times, that upset it, but I found a nice rock to place it on and it has been going strong ever since. I think I paid 8 for my start of it. I love the look of it but I want to keep mine confined to a rock or 2. I don't like it when It climbs all over the glass. but every one likes something different.

I will post new pic tomorrow , Mine is now 75% open and happy. I do have it leaning on the back wall on my BC29 to have it grow a bit on the wall. I will keep it in check though.

I reaquascaped my tank this weekend and am finally happy with the results. I had to move him all around. I am very sold on how hardy these things are I for sure thought he was dead but nope.

:)

I have had a green star colony for over 5 years now. It's dying now due to a fungus or bacteria, but that's not my point. I also have a red, a yellow/light green and a long polyp variety. First I've never paid more than $20 for a drag and they all took a week or more to start opening. My oldest colony is usually only open for a few hours a day and has been doing that since day one. My red variety is open all day long! There is huge variation in star polyp behavior.
