Is my lighting enough?

Hey all i have 30 long and was wondering if a VHO 95x2 and 2 actinic 25x2 is this enought to keep one of the smaller clams like a crocea or maxima? I have a 3 inch sand bed so that leaves about 12 inches of water. Thanks all

Probably not a good idea for long term results. Some have done it with VHO, many have failed.

Deresa or Squamosa could do well in your tank.

Yeah, the get big. Most likely a crocea or maxima would too. Maxs get a foot or more and crocea 6-8 inches in shell and even larger when extended.

You might consider a longer term home for any clam that you would get.

Even if they don't outgrow the tank, the calcium and buffer demands or a 8 inch clam could have you adding 2-part additive several times a day or buying a calcium reactor.

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying don't do it. If you want to keep a lower light clam until it gets to big, then go for it. IMO - it is responsible reef keeping if you have a home layed out for it when it grows up.

Also, wanted you to be aware that keeping Ca and Alk can become tedious, but doable.

Well maybe not id hate to be irresponcible clam owner. Maybe ill just stick to fish only. Thanks for the advice i appreciate it.
