Is the Pan World Pump the quietest for a Closed Loop? SPS LPS HELP?!?!

Wow, that is one heck of a nice set up. Is that yours? Man. I'm jealous! ;-) What size tank is that on? What are you housing in that? Man that is nice and clean. Any vibration noise from the Hard Plumbing? The PVC Pipe Glue I used was Christies. It is blue and makes it look messy. =( Yours looks perfect. Did you do that all yourself? That is so nice. Do you have any other pictures of it? Are those wood blocks you have the pump on? Is that the Pan World Pump? How do you like that skimmer? That's an EV right? Very nice. Is it noisy? I'm very impressed. I should pay you to come here and help me. =(

I use an Ocean Runner 3500 on a CL for my 36g bowfront. Plenty of flow for sps/lps, imo. All polyps move. I have the system running through 4 returns on an OM Squirt which alternates the flow.

VERY quiet! I used FLEX-PVC for the job. I have a tank log I started in the Reef Discussion forum that shows pictures.

Best,

Thanks MG! :) Yeah, that's mine. That's the 37.5 I told you about earlier. I did it all myself, and glued all the fittings upside down so the purple primer didn't run all over the place. It can be done if you take your time! That's the Pan World 50PX-X mounted on a foam/wood sandwich-my very own creation! It works great-no noise/vibration from anything. That's a Mag Drive 9.5 in the sump. And good call on the AquaC-it's an EV120 and I love it! Works great!

I would gladly come help you...if you were about 2800 miles closer! :D

Rob it's beautiful. I never thought of gluing it upside down like that. Good idea. I thought that looked like wood and foam sandwhiched together. Good idea. =) Is the Aqua C EV very quiet? You have any pictures of the inside of that tank? It looks great. Too bad you didn't live closer. I need help and my boyfriend said he would help, but isn't. I'm really upset with him about it. Long story. I feel like giving up. Nothing has gone right with this system so far. Reef N Ale great job. Thank you all for posting. Reef Lady I'm going to go check out your post. TY.

First of all MG, don't give up. It's far too much fun to do that! :)

I think you should work on figuring out how to post pics so we can see what you've got. Then maybe we'll have a better chance of helping in a positive way.

See what you can do!

BTW, you don't really need to run the closed loop 24/7. You could set it up to be off in the overnight hours if noise that much of a concern. Nightime calm on the reef-sounds pretty cool to me...think about that...

Rob

That is what I was thinking. I thought that turning the cl off at night would be a big help. I didn't know if that would effect the LPS, SPS, or Clams, any though. What do you think? I will look up how to post pictures. I don't know how. Do you have any pictures of the inside of your set up? I'd love to see it.

Okay, I hope this works. I am not sure if it will. Here are pictures of my system so far. I just put the pumps back on there really quick because I took them off. I didn't secure them fully that is why they look crooked. Anyway, please give me some suggestions? I was thinking if I get another pump, of plumbing it down to the floor as well so the vibration might be caught up with the floor, carpet, or foam pad. Or I was going to build a tiny stand to place the pump on behind the aquarium. Let me know if this works.

I haven't siliconed the prefilter onto the overflow yet as you can tell. I just put the pumps on really quickly to take pictures. That is why it is so crooked. I didn't know how to plumb the pvc onto the bulkhead so I just siliconed it on. Any other suggestions? I know the plumbing looks crappy. I was thinking, when I get my new pump, I thought of doing the plumbing down to the floor for my CL. Or either build a tiny stand behind the stand to set the pump on. I am worried about Vibration noise though. Let me know what you guys and gals would do different with my plumbing. My Local Reef Store owner said to try the Sequence Snapper. What do you think? They said it's really quiet. I am not sure whether to go with that pump or the Pan World. The thing that is good about the Snapper is that it is adjustable. It goes up to 2500 gph. It can be decreased to 1200gph and only draw 98 watts. I thnk those are the right numbers. Well let me know what you think. Thank you.

Hi MG! I've staring at your pics and going over the thread all morning(at work-hehe....).

I have some good ideas but I'll post them later tonight when I get home.

We can fix this up! :)

Rob

should I go ahead with a new pump? Or wait for your ideas? I don't think the QO for the closed loop will be quiet enough. It was so loud. Let me know. Thank you.

A Sequence Snapper would work, but it requires a 2" intake. They are quiet pumps. I'd consider one of the fanless Iwaki/Blueline pumps.

Take a mouse pad (or a small pillow, somthing like that) and some rubber bands around the pump, helps quiet it.

Cool set-up! Nicely done! It kinda reminds me of my 180. I have a closed loop on mine and a 1" sea-swirl (love it!). Difference is...my sea-swirl is on my closed loop (coralife Tubo sea 1270). Talk about a loud pump for only 1200 gph. I think the mag drives are noisy. I use a 24 for my main return.

I too want quiet pumps! :(

Good luck!

I have a quick question, do you think my Quiet One pump is so loud because I reduced it's intake size? It came with adapters to do it. It went from a 1 in to a 3/4in. Could that cause the pump to be so loud? Max, I don't think that would help this pumps noise. Thank you Wald for the complement. I personally think it looks like poop! lol

I have a Sequence Dart on my CL that splits by two with linelocs.

My tank is 10 feet from my couch. I cannot hear it at all. Unless I have the doors open to the sump area. Amd even then it is very faint.

This has got to be the quietest pump I have ever used.
