I am finally using photoshop along with this book I have and figured out how to color balance , crop, and water mark pictures.

The thing is When I save them on my computer then upload on photobucket they look like I didn't edit anything at all. I tried zenfolio , It looked better but not as good on my mac.

Do I need to do something before I save the photos ? Or is it just the websites I uploaded them on ?

thanks in advance

Make sure that you're saving them as sRGB if you're putting them on the web. Before you "Save for web" do "Edit/Convert to Profile" and select the sRGB profile.

Thanks berrguy I will try that today

I do it a bit different. After shopping I save as, switch the file box from Photoshop to jpeg, pic a file to save in, (I usually store images by month, like aug 08), then save. When exiting editor it asks to replace original and I click no.

In Photoshop the edited is saved in P/S right next to the original. Then there's a jpeg in my pictures aug08 folder to pick up and post to photobucket.

Ok I tried to save for web but select sRGB by edit/convert to profile.

when I go to the edit options I only get these options Fill, define brush preset, define pattern , keyboard short cuts and preset manager.

I have some images RAw and some jpegs from my camera. both the jpegs andRaw images look different when I upload them.

Where do I find the edit/convert to profile option ? I saved them for the web already without that step. Do I have to start all over from the original images to make this work ? I was trying to edit the save for web image.

Can you post an image so that I can see if that's really the problem?

I have Mac so my menus look a little different with the image loaded, Click on the "Edit Menu" The "Convert to profile" option is almost all the way down.

I took these as test shots to practice in PS . I opened the edited versions up and put them side by side to the photobucket images and they look like I did a 30% edit job or none at all. the red zoas look like 30% done the blues look worst than original image

ok the originals

They look different from the photoshop images . But when I look at the photoshop images compared to the photobucket images there is a big difference.

This is what made me ask the question they look way better in PS than the web .... I can see at least 80% difference to 100%

here are more

Ok since no one had an answer lol I found out what went wrong. The photoshop Cs book by kelby tells you to change color settings to adobe RGB ................. I just changed it back to sRBG and its fine now

That was were I was going with my questions. ;)

It's completely fine to work in AdobeRGB, especially for print. You just need to convert the image to sRGB before saving it for web use.

Cheers

So is it fine to work in PS with color settings set at adobe RGB ? then just convert the image to sRGB

When a RAW image is opened and camera Raw viewing window is up do I just make sure the image says sRGB at the bottom ?

I was also thinking maybe my screen was not calibrated. But my friend always calibrates his computers prior to giving them to me.

I need a new comp I have and old imac aqua color

That works or you can leave it in Adobe and just convert it as your last step before saving it for the web.

AdobeRGB has more colors available to you while sRGB more closely matches what most browsers can handle. Calibration is really important, especially when printing. Just walk into any Best Buy and look at the wall of TVs. They're all different. I used a Spyder to calibrate my screen but the Pantone Huey is supposed to be decent and it's under $100.

One thing I would do is create a "Levels" adjustment layer so that it identifies the blacks and the white. If your not sure what I am talking about click this button.

By moving the Black, mid and white sliders you can adjust where your shadows and highlights lie on the histogram. :) I hope I'm not confusing you more than I should.

By adding the Adjustment Layer, it allows you to change back and forth without affecting the actual layer so if you don't like the result later you can just disable it.

I used those methods you posted. the thing is they where not looking the way they did in ps when I put them on the web.

Here are some other ones I edit but finally got them to look like what I was seeing in ps to on the web
