Never seen it extend sweepers before. Is this normal/healthy? What about the brown algae looking furry spots?

I have 2 in my tank, they extend sweepers all the time but did not for months after I got them. The brown stuff....and how should I put this.....is most likely poop!
Good luck with them.
Mike.
BTW, when they do extend sweepers is when I target feed.

Do you feed it?? My favites make the same when I donÃ"šÃ‚´t feed it for a few days, it seems to be hungry. Try to feed it with brine shrimp, small fish pieces, krill, cyclop eeze or something similar.

Good luck,

Dani

The extension is normal and nothing to be concerned about. As you have been told earlier in the thread, the coral can be fed during this feeding response. But, it is not necessary.

Just an observation, but the "brown stuff" is forming around the septa/costae. This is a common place for algae growth, but not common for waste excretion. Waste is going to be expelled out of the gastroderm, through the pharynx, and out of the mouth in the center of the corallite.

My guess is that it is algae.

IME, the long sweepers don't grab much food, just kill other corals to insure space to grow into. Mf favia put out the long sweepers and shorter feeders as well, and it's the short ones that are sticky and grab food. Anyone else seen anything like this?
Also, it may be that it's poop got stuck to it, i've seen that happen pretty often as well. how long has it been on the coral?

you can usually tell the sweepers from the feeders by the presence of acrosperes(the round or bubble type tips that form on the ends of a lot but not every sweeper tentacle)they are full of many many nemotosists to cause major damage to corals in close proximaty!
