ok my plan is to turn this sump into a refug also. i want to remove the bioballs and put sand,live rock and cheato. i wil put the protein skimmer in the empty side. does anyone see a problem with this? yes there will be some mods to make it work.

Provided you can completely seal the "under" baffle from the bio ball chamber, and drill out holes near the top for the water to flow over. Not too challenging and should work just fine.
