is this really deresa or a hybrid

I would second your opinion- though it could be just a Gigas. Derasas don't have such heavy dentition- usually a very flat profile.

It is definately not a "pure" T. gigas, unless I'm being fooled by the picture, because T. gigas don't have tentacles on the incurrent siphon. ;) Do T. derasa and T. gigas commonly hybridize?

Also T. gigas have "windows" in the mantle, and I can't see any on this clam from the picture, but they may be present. The blue spots on the mantle are reminiscent of T. gigas patterning however, as is the excurrent siphon of this clam similar to T. gigas clams imo.

It is a Derasa. I have one similar to it. However, mine has a little bit more Green to it. I'll post a picture of it soon.

For those of you said that this is a deresa - do you have photos to show your deresa that also has the blue spots?

maybe this one is not that uncommon after all. I did not care for it - because it is too dark. Blue spots are nice - but I already have two T.gigas.

Yes it is definately a Derasa. here is a close up of a mantle. I have 3 of these 8 inchers.
