well i have a 12 gallon aquapod and a 130 gallon salt water tank. the 130 was never finished ( i got it for 500 bucks including tank stand and canopy ... couldent pass it up)
anyways on with the story

i have the 12 gallon tank and everything was happy and fine ( xenia and shrimp were in it)
untill got sick and went to the hospital for a week and the shrimp died..... :(:(:(
well i decided now that i want to finish the 130 since it should be a lot less picky about maintance. quest ion is can i use the old coral rock i find out side in the tank ( construction next door is digging a lot up) and then i can just seed the rock with figi rock

i live in south fl so it is the CACO3 rock

anyways.. how should i clean it .. would putting it in the tank and running it with heavy carbon / skimming be good enough?

You can use coral rock as base rock. An easy method to clean it is to soak it in a fairly strong solution of vinegar. This will remove a thin film from the outside. Then rinse it well and soak in in FW for a few more days. It is base rock so you'll need to place true LR in the tank if you want it to become active.

you dont thinik there will be any chemicals from the construction site

also there is several different types of rock over there. some i can tell are old corals but others have a more....... yellow ish look i guess and look more like real rock..but this is fl so everything here is from an old reef so i guess that should be ok also

what about the sand. think it is mostly silicat or more like reef sand that has buffering capabilitys
