It finally happened! (for the umpteenth time)

I just wanted to let you all know that it can happen to anyone. Today while trying to reattach a powerhead to the side of a tank, a 7 inch O. scyllarus made a swimming attack to the waterline and hit me on two nails. One is only dented, but the wound to the other finger is a bit nastier and I suspect I will lose the nail. I pride myself on knowing what these guys will do next. This one went to the wrong school. To take a line from Hills Street Blues, "Be careful out there!"

This kind of attack is almost always a strike with the dactyl closed You are more likely to be stabbed if you grab an Odontodactylus. The few times that I have been stabbed by an O. scyllarus, it was much more painful with the dactyl tips driven to the bone.
