Japan plants coral to save sinking 'territory'

China has been making claims on a number of islands and atolls in the Pacific for a number of years against Vietnam, The Philippines, Japan and other smaller island nations. In an attempt to get drilling rights for any oil finds.

There was almost a war between China and Vietnam a couple years ago over an atoll. The Vietmanese kept running in marines between high tide and low tide, atoll was under water at high tide, to keep the Chinese from claiming the oil rights.

kinda related, I saw a documentary about how the Japanese have an airport that was built in the water, they put a huge amount of rock and soil down to artificially create an island. They measure the thing constantly and have it wired, like a suspension bridge has wires, to pull the roof up higher and keep the thing level. If you see it at a library or on PBS, it is worth watching.

yea that was amazing. you guys heard that there's a prince in like india or somewhere near there that he's building custom islands for a million each?

Ironically that is why people are fighting over the islands / oil rights....so they can build an artificial island in Dubai for all the wealthy beneficiaries of the oil business...
