JDAntunes Deep Blue 75G Rimless

Latest update!

Been working on the finals details before adding water to the tank.

I first installed a dedicated 20 Amp circuit in the wall behind the tank. I also install a CAT5 outlet so I can connect my Aqua Controller to the network.

Installation was not easy as I imagine because I had a cross beam that won't let me fish down my wires, so I open a hole in the wall pass the wires through the beam and finally got the wires down.

If you hadn't been running new electrical wire I would've suggested using EoP instead of pulling a Cat5 drop thru the wall.

Interesting build BTW. I'm in the process of building my own using the same Deep Blue 75 gallon rimless. Hows that silencer working out for you? I haven't started on the plumbing yet. Good to know about the Eheim pump because I was planning on going with either the 1260 or 1262 pump. I don't plan to run a fuge though. Thanks for the insight though.

Yeah, I know about the wireless boxes but I'm old school, I love and trust my wires. Anyways... thanks for the tip.

I'm not using the silencer anymore, the size I order was wrong. I'm using a All Glass 1 1/4" durso style standpipe that I bought at my LFS. I'm very happy with this product it runs very quiet. But if you are planning to order the silencer, get the 1 1/2" and then reduce it to 1" at the bulkhead. That way you won't have the problem I had.

Thanks for the compliments!

And the answer to your question is no. It looks like a different method. I'll post more detail pictures of the silencer later on, as I'm going to post it for sale soon.

Its not wireless it runs over the existing electrial wiring in the house. I'm still looking at plumbing options. Thanks for the input on the silencer.

Build update...

I was a little frustrated after adding the sand. The tank became very milky and took a couple of days to clear. But right after everything settled, there was a white film of light dust over everything, I had to vacuum about ten gallons out and change my sock twice a day to get rid of it. After the clean up, I started to rebuild my aquascape in front of the tank, I had pictures to help me re-create the structure and finally secure all the pieces together.

I hanged the light fixture and fired the halides. Then I step back to see how it looked"¦

I let everything run for a week and then I tested for Phosphates"¦

Not a bad reading, but I wanted to get to zero. So I hook up my Reef Octopus Media Reactor and added GFO. I also added Mineral Mud into the refugium.

Here's how my sump looks for now"¦

I have started my fifth week of cycling and stabilizing my system. Phosphate reading is zero and now I'm going to start the Biological Cycle. I used dry rock and live sand. But I want to boost up the bacteria using a culture before I raise Ammonia levels. I started dosing 17.5 ml a day of Brightwell Aquatics MicroBacter7 and I will continue dosing for 14 days. After that I will raised my ammonia levels to kick in the cycle, will see how it does.

Mind if I ask who you bought the sump from? Just found trigger systems today. I have a new 120 I am setting up and absolutly admire your arrangment. I would like to do the same. Love the clean profesional look.

I also have the center overflow arrangment with 1" drain and 3/4" return.

Hows' that Reef Octo reactor working for ya? I was looking at those wondering how well they work compared to others. I like how you used the return to push it too. Saves on energy instead of running another pump. What kind of prep did you do to your rock before starting your cycle?

The tank and sump is looking GREAT . How did you get in touch with the trigger systems sump company . I see no telephone number on there website .

Thanks for the comment. I bought my sump from thatpetplace.com, and I know that premiumaquatics.com also sell them. Good luck with your build, send me a PM once you have a thread for it.

The reactor is working quite well. I can't compare to other reactors because this is the first one I used. But what push me to it was the fact that does not have any sponges inside, so it won't clog. You can read a really nice review of this product in here... http://reefgizmo.com/2011/02/reef-octopus-media-filter-review/

The dry rock, I only clean it out with a garden hose and soaked it in RO/DI water for about a month, I was reading phosphates weekly but it never leaked.

Nice build, very clean. Hows does is the eheim pump when plumbed externally? any noise?

Thanks for your comments. I'm very pleased with the pump and the noise is very minimum. I added a piece of mouse pad under the pump to eliminate any vibration transfer to the stand. Works very well!

Thank you for your compliments. I did get in touch with them, but was only through email.

I read your whole thread and great build! I love how clean and professional everything looks, done right the first time I see :) I want my setup to be very similar to yours. But with a few changes and probably a bit smaller 50g or so.

I really love rimless tanks but I also love fish that can jump lol

maybe I missed it but where is your skimmer going in your sump?

also how is your reactor setup with a pump?

Hey A_Z! Thanks for your comments. Keeping my nano system for two and a half year and reading a lot about our hobby has help me plan this upgrade.

I really love and enjoy this hobby. :inlove:

You should take a look at the 57 gallon version of my tank, both Oceanic and Deep Blue manufacture them. Don't be concern about fish jumping out. To prevent that I'm going to build a bird net top which I'll be using when I'm not showing the tank. This will help me keep all the fish in the tank.

You aren't looking at my skimmer because I don't have one yet. My next purchase will be a pair of Vortech MP40 pumps and a Reef Octopus in-sump skimmer.

The reactor works great with a little flow of my main pump, in fact, I have enough flow to add a Reef Octopus bio-pellet reactor as soon as I start getting livestock in the tank.

I definitely like the strainers instead of sponges in that reactor. I'm still thinking over which way I want to go with rock though. I like the idea of no hitchhikers for a better start, but still concerned about phosphates. I've seen a lot of people go thru a lot to clean the rock up then cook it for a couple of months. I've even heard of people reading 0 phosphates and still issues in the tank... anyway thanks for the info and the link.
