Just ordered this

It looks like a favite to me as well, either why it's still good deal for peace that big.

9 inches.

Cool. That sounds like a good deal.

Take some pics when you put it in your tank. Looks like some bubble algea on the side though...

Who cares what its called, it is a nice colored piece, and it will look great in your tank, what is the big deal if it is an "acan" or not? the only thing that would concern me is the receeding tissue....adjust it to your lights slowly and feed it

1) Nothing more then a proper I.D. and care instructions.
2) Maybe he wanted an Acan.

The only reason I said anything, is because people put big prices on Acans, and that favia looks like the common $40 ones you see at the lfs. But they label it Acan, and put a $129.99 price tag on it.

The person then paid $65 for it thinking they got a good deal, when in fact, it is still a bit overpriced imo, I hope it at least included shipping.

Also, a positive ID can make a big difference in providing for this coral.

LOL

I asked in there forum and the guy who responded said he wasn't sure and he'd just started there, a great person to answer customer questions.

Either way I'm happy it's a good price for a huge peace like that.

DR mac sells 4 inch peaces of this for $50-$60

This is a 9 inch peace.

I just got this back from them via email

The coral came in just as it appears in the pics. I'm about 99.9% positive that it is an acan, just not one of the typical ones you see everyday. I believe its a Acanthastrea Hillae. I wanted to take it home for my own collection, and had it made it through the sale, I'd be taking it home today.

We do are absolute best to identify corals with as close of names as possible. We don't always get the names right because it may be labeled incorrectly on our invoice or we make our best guess, because we try to get the corals up on the site and out to the customers as soon as possible. However, with this coral it came in as an acan, when we looked it up in Verons book, it match almost perfectly to the Acan Hillae. As always if someone feels we have labeled something incorrectly and it needs to be changed, just shoot us an email.
Thanks

Here are pics, the coral isn't doing to hot but I don't want to go into it before I give the vendor a chance to take care of it. All I'm wondering about is the ID

Brad,

We responded to your earlier email almost immediately, and have yet to hear back from you. We also tried to call you. We've also responded to all your other various posts here on ReefCentral.

We always go out of our way to make sure our customers are happy, which should be pretty clear if you read all the threads about us. You won't find 1 person who has a legitimate gripe with us. Occasionally corals are seriously stressed or die in transit, which is why we have and honor our guarantee.

As far as any possible mis-identification of this coral, we handle 500+ corals a week and I'm the first to admit that no one here is perfect. If you had any questions about the coral I would have expected you to inquire before you bought it. The fact that you bought it tells me you were happy with the piece and the price.

That leaves the "receeding tissue" issue. I personally handled your coral before it went out and it looked identical to the picture you saw when you bought it. I also find it just a little unfair that you're publicy complaining about our coral when your very last post here on ReefCentral was "Water levels all messed up".

Once again, please give me a call at 866-926-7257. I will also personally handle this "problem" and make sure you are happy with the outcome one way or another.

The water levels in my tank, would not effect the coral like this, I have have 20+ other corals in 75g all of which are doing fine and growing. The water levels are not ideal in my tank but in no way would effect a coral like this that quickly.

I do not want to go into any details until we can get something worked out. Sorry if I have caused you any fustration.

I did not get a responce to my email for a couple of hours at work? There was nothing when I left.

The only reason why I posted this pic up was to get a positive id, I liked the coral either way before I bought it and it's a good price for something that big if it was a Acan or Favia and that is all I'm trying to find out.
