solution that i use for the hair algae that Fins and Things in Danbury has 3 - gallon bottles of the stuff. Usually its an 8 oz bottle. Its pricey but worth it.

The hair algae is gone, but I did a number of other changes along with it, including dosing vodka. I have been reading about a number of other bacteria based products such as Prodibio, Zeo, etc, and there are a number of reefers who are reporting positive results - but again, they usually have made other changes as well so it is hard to tell what the effect of the bacteria is.

Well I can tell you I didnt do vodka or anything different and its working for me.

the alcohol in the vodka provides a carbon source for bacteria which take up nitrates and phosphates. But you have to be very careful with this, there are stories of tank wipeouts due to excessive vodka which caused blooms of bacteria that resulted in deficiencies of oxygen, killing fish and corals.

I think she is referring to an observation I made in my own tank a while back. I didn't think my zoos looked as good on vodka. My tank is 95% SPS so for me it's not a big deal. I have started and stopped vodka 3 times now and have really noticed a difference. It works well as long as you are careful and test at each increase in dosage. IMO, it should be used in established tanks with normal amounts of algae. If your tank is overrun with algae then you have other issues that should be addressed first.

No problem my2girls. Its really not that off topic. Your saying you deal with your algae problem with vodka and i deal with mine with nitro bacteria. All relative in a different sort of way. Not only has my2girls had zoo issues, others have lost their zoos and mushrooms to the alchoholic ways. So I prefer to keep my zoos for now but if in the future things become unbearable, i may have to sacrifice. For now, Id say my algae is doing good. Or bad however you see it. Dead.

By the way, anyone else get reefsurges purple tipped that has morphed into another color. Crazy color.
