I bought this juvenile tang thinking it was a an Atlantic Blue, (the LFS told me it was a yellow tang, hehe) it looked like this;

Now, only 2 weeks later is is showing some markings that are new to me, is it an Antantic Blue?

you scored if you got the Atlantic blue for a yellow!! sometimes I enjoy shopping at LFS. Sometimes it does have benefits.

im going to agree with Amphiprion on this one.. look at the mouth, its a dead give away.. also, in my area atlantic blue tangs are cheaper than yellows..typical price YT $26 to $32 and for a atlantic blue $18 to $28..

Correct me if I am wrong but the isn't the KOLE tang mroe of a brown color that yellow. It does look similar in that it has the dots on the frontal area.....

Juvenile Kole tangs are a bright yellow with blue eyes, just like the atl. blue. Like SVXH6 said, the mouth is the primary difference, as the Ctenochaetus group (kole is part of) have outward projecting mouths and specialized "teeth" as compared to other tangs.

SDguy, thanks for the link.
I did see the bristle nose mouth on him and the "kole" yellow eye. I had not ever seen a kole with spots instead of lines. I saw a few in the article you sent.
My conclusion is, it's a kole tang, only time will tell if it will have the lines like most kole's. I hope it is the type of bristle nose that will have spots instead of your avg kole tang.

Thanks to all for the help!!

SVXH6, yes the Atlantic blues are cheaper than yellows here too, I found this out after seeing a few true atlantics at other stores. That was surprising to me. I paid $25, as opposed to $29 which was what other stores had the Yellows priced at, and their Atlantic Blues were adults for $24.

I also noted that when I did see an Atlantic Blue, It was much more round in body shape than the bristle nose, even as a juv.

Thanks again, for all the info!!:)
