Kaserpick's Neo Update:

Thank you! Yes, I've seen my old one go after flatworms before. The one I have now spends all day looking closely at the rocks and picking pods...you'll even notice him (or her) checking under the clams hoping to find something. They're great fish and very beneficial in my opinion. It's also a great way to bring a vibrant yellow to the tank. :)

Great, I think I will look into getting 1 on my next tank. How are they with other fish? Ecspecially Sixline Wrasse's, do you think they would get along in a 120g for example?

Looks great, i like the shallow look. Your corals are really going to take off with that much light, flow, and skimming. can't wait to see it fill in.

You seem to have a lot of healthy clams so maybe you can help me out with something. I have had a Squamosa clam for about 3 years now. And it has been doing very well up until about a week or 2 ago. I have noticed that 1 part of its mantle is retracted a lot and it looks like part of the shell is almost peeling off. Its happening right at were the new growth ends on the very edge of the shell. I haven't gotten any new tank inhabitants except a Sally Lightfoot crab. Its about 7" maybe 8" across now, it was only 2"-3" when I got it. I am starting to think maybe it needs more Ca/Alk so I bumped up my dosing timers by 5 minutes each today. Hopefully this will help, but I am not sure. What do you think? TIA.

You can see the clam on the left side of my avatar. Its actually the area at the top of the picture thats retracting some.

Twinspot hogs, in general, do well (especially when smaller) with other fish. I've never noticed agression with either one. My first one I kept with a Mystery Wrasse, and they got along great. I believe that's the same genus as a Six-line. That was in a 65g, so I would imagine you would have no problems with that. The Mystery was there first and was pretty agressive but not toward the hogfish. Hope that helps!

Thanks d-man. :) I can't wait to see it fill either!

looks good love the clams everywere

Thank you! Yeah, I'm hoping I'll find another small rock for the tank so I can try to get those T. Croceas in the mix. :)

Hey Luther, I just saw your thread in the clam forum. Is the mantle curling inward at the place it's retracted? If so, it could be PM (pinched mantle: it's believed to be a protozoan disease). If that's the case, the guys in the clam forum can give you some remedies. I've dipped in FW before with clams that have had PM, but it's a last resort.

Anyway, if it's not curling or getting worse, check for pyramid snails (1/4" small white conic snails). Also, check to make sure clam is exhibiting new growth. If it's the snails, you'll need to remove them manually a couple times a week until they're gone. You'll just need to check twice a month after that. If its shell doesn't show new growth, then something is wrong with the clam (I wouldn't think it's that with the growth you've been having though).

If those don't show anything, then it's probably something bothering it. Also, 8 dKH is fine for clams.

I just wanted to ask which mode you use on vortechs and at what height have you place your T5s?

Hey again! I keep the master vortech on Reefcrest (~40% output), and the slave vortech is anti-synced with the master (around 40% as well). The water moves! :p

The T5's are around 5-6 inches (close to 13-15 cm) away from the water surface. The fixture was raised in some of the shots, so I could take better pics from above. :)

so there's no day light bulb?

Lighting: 6x24w ATI PM (4 Blue+, 2 Fiji Purple)???

btw great tank..:) wow!

Thanks! You're correct; there is no day light bulb. But, neither the Blue+ nor the Fiji Purple are actinics. The look would be equivalent to a 20k halide in my opinion. :)

oh yes..Blue+....that's great...where you get the fiji purple?

i wanted to get one of them..:)

again great tank~

I bought the Fiji Purples through Reef Geek (www.reefgeek.com), one of our sponsor's. They have incredible customer service.

I originally had 5 Blue+ and 1 Aquablue Special, but in the end it was too blue and washing out the pinks and reds. So I decided to go with the Fiji Purple, and then decided to add another.

i just found this thread. can we get an update. i just got the same tank and have been inspired with yours
